If you are new to Net-SNMP or SNMP in general, then a good place to start is the tutorial section. The download section contains the source code and binaries for various platforms. Dec 28, 2015 The built-in MIB browser in SolarWinds is horrendously slow when you are trying to create a custom poller with the Universal Device Poller application. Just import the MIB into the MIB Importer and it will give you all the information you need about the SNMP leaf - Group and name; Source kind, OID and type; Value unit, indicator and scale.
I used to use Getif for poking around inside SNMP results from servers and devices. However it no longer works with Windows 7 and 64-bit.
I am looking for hopefully an open source bit of software that will allow me add MIB's as required and allow me to browse the MIB tree and send a request/walk off to a server to get results.
What do you all use?

You may give a try at MIB Browser from iReasoning, the free version is only limited to the number of loaded MIBs (10 at once).

At the moment, Getif works for me on windows 7. Just try starting it in 'XP compatibility mode' :)
All of them sucks. but try one these. BlackOwl MIB Browser, Tamosoft Essential network tools or Colasoft Network analyzer
In my experience, SolarWinds has by far the best SNMP tools on Windows. I've also recently used NetTools Pro by Axence, and it seems reasonable. My windows machine is still XP though, so I can't vouch from them working on newer versions.

Customizable

Search for the MIB file on the website of the manufacturer of your network device (router, switch, server).
Launch the program.
Choose the menu item “File | Import MIB File…” to load and convert the MIB file.
You may encounter an error during the import, in which case you will have to edit
the MIB file.
Check the values that are displayed after the import.
If everything is OK, then select the menu item “File | Save For PRTG Network Monitor” to save the new .oidlib file.
If necessary, save a copy of the file in the /snmplib subdirectory of PRTG.
Create the SNMP library sensors and select the desired entries that are made available by the new .oidlib file.
MIB
MIB stands for “management information base.” An MIB contains information that is used to monitor and control a network device. Generally speaking, an MIB is a collection of definitions which are stored in devices as management information.
MIB file
An MIB file is a file that contains the corresponding management information for a specific device. SNMP is used for this function.
OID
The various bits of management information are called 'managed objects.” Each object has its own OID (object identifier). An OID is a series of numbers which makes the designation of each object unique. These numbers are read by SNMP and displayed in PRTG.
MIB tool
Many administrators want to know how to read, import, and convert MIB files. There are a number of MIB tools and MIB browsers on the market. Paessler AG also offers a free MIB importer which you can use to convert your MIB files.
IETF standards
The IETF has defined a global MIB in RFC 1155. MIBs are included in more than 300 of the IETF’s first 5,000 RFCs. For an initial overview, check out this Wikipedia article.
Manufacturers and MIBs
Most manufacturers – including Cisco, Juniper, Dell, etc. – offer SNMP or other technologies (such as Net Flow) for their routers, switches, and workstations. But as there are countless different manufacturers, it is impossible for monitoring software to provide standard sensors for every situation or for every piece of hardware that exists on the market. This is where MIB files come into play.
Finding an MIB file
MIBs can be found on the websites of manufacturers (usually in the download section), or on the website of the hardware you wish to monitor.
